DIM – The key to cancer’s cure
While the search for a treatment for cancer continues among other viral diseases that have taken the lives of millions, a compound found in Brassica vegetables (known as DIM) has gained the attention of the medical community.
And after research, especially in relation to breast and prostate cancer, it was found that the chances of men getting prostate cancer reduced by 52 % while women’s chances of getting breast cancer reduced by 40 %.
The full form of this compound is Diindolylmethane, and is formed by the autolytic breakdown of glucobrassicin that are commonly found in vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and kale. Sounds familiar to the advice Mom gave you?
And according to latest research, this compound along with another two compounds act as a natural immune booster, and is currently being marketed as a supplement for the same apart from the anti-cancer properties that it demonstrates as it reduces a patient’s resistance to Taxol, the most important medicine that one needs if they have cancer.
And while there is excitement after several years of waiting after this discovery, what remains to be seen is if the research to see the effects of this compound on various viral and bacterial diseases shows positive results.
If this does, then hopefully, several patients who have these ailments might yet find hope in the possibility of a cure.
