Saving lives isn’t something that we take likely. As much as it is a basic human instinct, it is also a profession, so it comes to no surprise that people undergo rigorous training so that they can better equip themselves to do just that. To ensure a certain standard, several governments provide for regulatory bodies that seek to implement a consistent and reliable level of service.

Being a paramedic as an example requires that you obtain an EMT certification (Emergency Medical Technician). As you are a first responder to some crises, it is necessary that you are well equipped with the skills needed to properly address concerns. Even at that, an EMT certification has many levels– being a full-fledged paramedic, capable of administering a greater variety of medication and medical procedures requires that you get an EMT-P certification.

Tests are administered by the NREMT based on NHTSA standards for curriculum, ensuring that the degree of training and education across (only 46 states administer these exams) the country as an EMT of various levels are consistent all-throughout.

The same goes for other life-saving professions such as firefighters, where the IFSAC is the main regulatory body that determines and accredits firefighter standards.
